Casefile 005 - Video

[Have some accidental video, Johto. The video is a bit staticy, but it's still clear enough to make out a burned, crumbling ceiling; sunlight lancing down through the gaps in bright shafts. About half of Harry's face is visible, and he seems to be trying to do something with the gear. The video occasionally winks out for an instant, each time preceded by the sound of a button on Harry's gear being pressed.]

[For some reason, the sound is continuous, if a bit distorted by static.]

-'s try not to be here too long, I don't have a lot of luck with buildings like this.

Smoo.

Though at least I can say without irony- "Sweet Kiss"? That's just wrong. -that it was like that when we got here.

Chu!

No, there's just sort of history with me and- look, it's a long story.

Smoo-chu~

Oh come on, it was hardly ever actually MY fau-

RATTATA!

SMOO!

HELL'S BE-

[The feed cuts out abruptly.]

[The wild Rattata shoots out from a pile of ashen debris, streaking at Lara. Harry manages to yank the Smoochum out of harm's way, just barely. The passing Quick Attack leaves a nasty scrape across the back of his hand.]

[It's this, partially, that allows Lara to twist out of his grasp and land to face the Rattata, a determined grin on her face. Or as much as a Smoochum can manage.]

Smoo-CHUM!

Oh stars and stones- ah-

[Harry's been trying to figure out this battling thing as he's been traveling. The information on the Gear is frustratingly vague, but he thinks he's got the gist by now.]

Uh, Lara! Lick attack!

[Lara delivers a devastating, paralyzing Lick to the Rattata... which does precisely nothing. Meet the Normal type, Harry. Specifically, it's immunity to Ghost attacks.]

[The Rattata's response is a fierce Pursuit attack that sends Lara sprawling. She struggles to her feet, apparently enjoying this despite getting a Dark type attack to the face. Unsteadily, she runs at the Rattata, to Harry's dismay.]

Oh, hell- ah, POUND!

[Calling out attacks seems patently ridiculous, but it seems to work. Lara's -fists? seems a bit inappropriate, but it's the closest Harry can come up with- slam into the Rattata, knocking it back a bit. It seems more annoyed than hurt, however, and sends off another lighting-fast Quick Attack at Lara, flattening her.]

[The Rattata rounds again on the fallen Smoochum, charging with its massive teeth bared for a Bite attack.]

NO YOU DON'T-

[The Rattata's Bite is met with Harry's back, crouching over Lara. The rat Pokémon scrabbles up to Harry's shoulders, trying to attack his head and neck. Harry attempts to bat it away with moderate success.]

[Fortunately, the re-enactment of the alternate ending to '1984' is interrupted by Lara scrambling up over Harry's shoulders as well, delivering a rather more effective Pound. The Rattata is knocked off Harry, Lara leaping down after it.]

Lara-

[Desperate times...]

SWEET KISS!

SMOOCHUM!

[The Rattata's next charge is met with Lara planting one solidly on its face, her lips seeming to glow slightly as they briefly threaten to overtake its entire face. The wild Pokémon stumbles back, thoroughly confused and running in circles, trying to find something to attack. Lara delivers another vindictive Pound, a bit more effective now that the Rattata seems to be fighting its own tail.]

[Harry scrabbles inside his bag for a moment, dropped when the Rattata attacked, before spinning and lobbing a Pokeball like a baseball. It hits the Rattata with a flash of light, clicking shut. Rattling briefly once, twice, three times... and falling silent with a soft 'bing'.]

[Lara picks up the Pokéball triumphantly, holding it over her head like a trophy.]

Smoo!

Yeah. That was great. Let's never do that again.

[When the feed clicks back on, it shows Harry sitting with his back to a wall, looking thoroughly beat up and dusty. Lara is flopped contentedly across his head, looking exhausted, and a slightly-tattered Rattata is looking curiously up into the Gear from Harry's lap. As Harry reaches up to absentmindedly scratch its head, the large, ugly scrape across the back of his hand can be easily seen.]

So, this thing basically tries to kill me. Lara beats it up, and I stuff it into a little airtight ball... and now we're friends or something.

Ratt-a.

I think it bears repeating at this point... this place is WEIRD.

[Another absentminded scratch behind the Rattata's ears.]

I think I'm gonna call her Frisby.

Ta-tta.

That is commonly how things work in Johto. Have you not been here for long?

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
A month or so now, I think. It just seems like such an abrupt shift...

Couldn't really tell the difference with the fish.

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, uh-

[There's another bit of static as Harry digs out a Pokeball. He lightly tosses it out past the range of the camera, and winces a bit at the flash of light.]

Fish.

[The camera spins around, focusing on a patch of floor in front of Harry -- now containing a Magikarp sadly flopping in place and making 'karp' sounds'. The Rattata hops down and sniffs at it curiously.]

No change from before I caught it, that I can tell. Kinda worried it might be brain-damaged, to tell the truth.

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, no. That is perfectly normal behaviour for a Magikarp, good sir.

Re: [voice] I JUST realized this was tagged as voice, not video. >.<

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, good. I was starting to worry SOMEONE had gotten overenthusiastic. Lara.

Re: [voice] It can be voice on Shelly's end and video on yours!

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
If your Magikarp evolves, you should see a change.

Re: [voice] Whatever works is good.

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone else mentioned something about it leveling up. I'm assuming you're not talking about evolution in the Darwinian sense.

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, no. It is more of a... sudden puberty.

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[A brief pause, as Harry recalls his own puberty.]

...It's not going to start, ah, loving my leg, is it?

[So much do not want.]

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
... I have not yet heard of this happening.

Re: [voice]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Thank god. Hell's bells, I don't even want to THINK about having to get one of these things fixed or something...

[A few short sounds of violence!]

I said I wasn't! WAS NOT! Ow!

You'd get used to weirder things the longer you stay here.

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The general weirdness I've been getting used to. The bi-polar personality shift in the wildlife is something new.

re: video;

[identity profile] airwinged.livejournal.com 2011-07-11 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's more like respect than anything. Some of the Pokémon don't react like that. Some would still hate you, but they've got no choice but to follow in the end.

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What, they'd just HAVE to obey? That seems... wrong, somehow.

Re: video;

[identity profile] airwinged.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
If it creeps you out that much, you can always let the Rattata go.

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-13 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Harry looks at the Rattata for a moment.]

I dunno, this one doesn't seem to MIND...

You'd be able to tell if they did, right?

Re: video;

[identity profile] airwinged.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well, obviously. If they don't like you, they've got creative ways of telling you.

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[In a more visual medium, this is where a brief montage of Harry's pets, associates, and various household members from back home would go.]

...as long as I don't start waking up to find decapitated mice on my bed, then.

No, not you...

Re: video;

[identity profile] airwinged.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
At least it's not grease and metal nuts.

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even want to know where they'd GET those around here. I've seen a grand total of one car since I've been here.

No, that is NOT a challenge!

Re: video;

[identity profile] airwinged.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Hope just raises an eyebrow.] One second.

[He goes off camera for a few minutes, and spends most of that time coaxing something named Juggernaut to come to him. When he comes back, he's carrying and Aron. ... Well, more like trying to carry.]

This is Juggernaut. His diet's mostly made of metal, so I need to look for a lot of scraps just to feed him. The thing is, he eats way too much for his size, and then throws up after. [Maybe you can tell where he's going with this, Harry.]

Re: video;

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-27 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
...Okay, that's a lot more biological than I was thinking.

Also, ew.

[identity profile] souljudgment.livejournal.com 2011-07-09 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations there!

... Is this the first time you actually battled, Harry?

[Video?]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-10 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
With Lara, against something that didn't just run off or flop around? Pretty much.

[Video! I should remember to mark these things.]

[identity profile] souljudgment.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Lara, I bet she thinks she has to do all the work now.

Re: [Video! I should remember to mark these things.]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-12 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
She seems to like it that way. Couple ago, she tried going all Rambo on an entire swarm of those crow things when I wasn't looking.

[Video]

[identity profile] souljudgment.livejournal.com 2011-07-14 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
... I have no idea what that means but it sounds like she's handling it a lot better than you are.

Re: [Video]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
I don't usually go looking for fights, no. ...Mostly. Unless it's really important.

[Video]

[identity profile] souljudgment.livejournal.com 2011-07-18 05:21 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't it benefit her more if you train her normally though? I can't imagine she'd be able to evolve like that otherwise.

Re: [Video]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose if nothing else, it'll help burn off some her extra energy. Teach discipline and all that junk.

...you're the second person to mention evolution.

[Video]

[identity profile] souljudgment.livejournal.com 2011-07-19 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Burning off extra energy definitely helps. Seems to me like all she wants is to exercise, really.

Well--- It's inevitable unless your pokémon can't evolve, you know? Or they don't train for it.

Re: [Video]

[identity profile] used-fireblast.livejournal.com 2011-07-26 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Last guy that mentioned it said it was sort of like puberty. It's got something to do with the leveling, right?
exeggutorhead: (what are you doing)

[personal profile] exeggutorhead 2011-07-09 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
What happened to your hand, did you try to fight it yourself or something?
