Casefile 004A - Video/Action for Goldenrod City

[The feed clicks on with Harry in the Goldenrod Pokemon Center. He's obviously got the Gear propped up on something, as he sits back in a waiting-room chair to reveal a tiny Cyndaquil sleeping in his arms. He's silent for a moment, looking a bit uncomfortable.]

So... I woke up this morning and this little girl was hatching.

[A glance down at the sleeping Pokemon, almost like he's worried about breaking her.]

Do, ah, do baby Pokemon need any kind of special care? I mean like a liquid diet or anything?

Smoo-chu! Chum!

[A small hand waves over one side of the screen, revealing that Harry has his Smoochum playing cameraman today. Harry himself just glances up, looking sort of annoyed for a second.]

Thanks Lara, that's a HUGE help.

Lady! Why did you run off? You could have gotten hurt!

Lara!

[Lara tumbles a bit, the Pokegear falling with a clatter. She scrambles to her feet, glaring at Lady and taking what looks like a defensive stance of some kind. It is, as they say, on. A metaphorical tumbleweed blows past.]

[Harry's on his feet, looking like someone trying to defuse a bomb with nothing but one of those titanium sporks. He's slowly reaching for Lara's Pokeball.]

Lara, step back and calm down. This is not Tombstone and you are not Wyatt Earp and this is not the OK Corral.

[Oh, first-time pokemon dad?] Not that I know of. My pokemon have been pretty okay from the get-go when they hatched.

Lots of Candy!

And lots of playing!

And hugs and kisses!

Oh my, Lady please stop! I really don't have to pay off damages to another pokemon center!

[Harry's joked about Lara causing massive collateral damage before. This is the first time he's seriously been worried about it. Lara continues to stare down Lady like she's about to go for a gun.]

Lara-

[Lara launches herself at Lady, though the effect is somewhat ruined by her inability to get any significant air-time while moving forward.]

[Harry manages to dart forward and awkwardly scoop her up in one arm.]

[First time Pokedad. Lara acts like an unruly child sometimes, but the only special care Harry's needed to provide so far has been stopping her from getting bored and breaking things.]

That's good. I don't think I've seen any stores around here carrying Poke-Gerbers, for one.

Uh, I think I can manage that.

[Well, except for the candy. Money issues aside, Harry's pretty sure giving that much sugar to kids is a bad idea even when they can't summon blizzards on a whim.]

Good! What kind of toys do you have?

Lady stop! Don't do that in here please!

I'm so sorry! I didn't mean for this to happen, Lady just got away from me! She's usually really well behaved so I don't know what came over her all of a sudden.

I've taken care of a few eggs before, and from my experience they pretty much get used to themselves almost immediately after hatching. One of them even took the berries from me because they were hungry.

[Lara and Campbell have managed to amuse themselves, so far. He's not sure whether to humor the kid or not.]

I must've left all my toys back home, sorry.

That part doesn't surprise me.

[Glancing down at the sleeping Cyndaquil. The Pokedex said she's supposed to be about a foot tall... long... whatever, but she looks smaller than that.]

Ready to battle and everything, huh?

[He doesn't look particularly happy about that part. Sending Pokemon into battle is something he's gotten used to, at least in theory, but this feels different.]

I think Lara might be a bad influence.

[A bit of shifting the Smoochum and the Cyndaquil, not helped by Lara's efforts to escape.]

Oh, don't you even deny it.

T-thank's Lady, just please don't fight anymore inside. Fighting should be for outside, not in. That's how you break things.

Well, don't worry about actually letting them battle for now. [He notices the look.] I mean, if it doesn't make you comfortable.

Don't say sorry to me, you're the one with babies and no toys!

Babies like toys! Go buy some toys!

I'll get right to that.

[Probably couldn't hurt to humor the kid. He seems pretty young.]

Anything else?

[He refrains from calling Beckett 'Dr Spock'. Even Harry can show some discretion and self-control sometimes.]

Guess I'll have to wait and see what she wants.

[He tried keeping Lara out of battle the first time he was in Johto. It ended painfully.]

[Oh Hell's bells, please don't start crying, don't start crying, don't start crying-]

Eh, I figure it's only a matter of time before Lara manages to demolish a building. I'd just prefer she not do it in the middle of winter.

Deal with it.

Not too keen on the thought, huh? [Not too hard for him to guess, at least.]

Eh, it gets a little hard to remember that these things are capable of taking down tanks, I guess.

[What are you talking about, Harry has an epic poker face.]

Um...

...hmm...

Coloring! And paints!

[Snort.] Yeah. Some of these guys are scarier than a nuclear warfare, I figure--- if they actually let loose.

R-really? Lady behaves usually...

Lara's behavior is kind of contagious, I've noticed.

[Lara is still squirming in Harry's arm, trying to get free and continue her campaign of righteous vengeance.]

[If Lara ever gets bigger...]

Like a kid with a hand-grenade.

[Harry's imagining Lara with access to something like fingerpaints. The image is something akin to Jackson Pollock as a hyperactive toddler.]

[So yeah, have some of Harry's epic poker face, Beckett.]

Maybe some crayons or something.

Oh my..

Um... Lady, what are you doing?

[He grimaces at the comparison.]

Okay yeah, not the best mental image, but good comparison.

[Joining in the grimmace; Harry managed to bring up some nasty memories himself. Why you betray me like that, brain?]

Ye-e-ah.

...I'm still kind of weirded out that a fire-hedgehog came out of an egg.

[Oh look, a not-at-all-awkward-or-forced subject change!]

[If he noticed, he's not showing it.]

Cyndaquil, if I remember right. Not the weirdest, trust me. I've seen other things come out of the egg that just don't work.

Lara, calm down right-

[And at that exact moment Lara manages to flip herself out of Harry's grip, landing on the floor and charging at Lady -and by extension Mihoshi- like a lunatic.]

Lara!

Um, well... I guess if you're determined, um.. Lady..um,I really don't know what to do! I-I guess... use lick?

[And Mihoshi was trying to direct that battle. That really wasn't the kind of help Harry was hoping for. Biting off a curse, Harry spins and starts digging through his bag trying to find Lara's little-used Pokeball.]

[Ignoring little things like tactics and planning, Lara just continues charging at Lady and unleashes a Pound attack.]

[What else can she do? Mihoshi knows better than to try and stop someone determined to fight. She just hoped that it would end quickly.]

[Lady doesn't move out of the way in time and takes the attack. Once she's able to back up a step, she unleashes her own attack, licking Lara with her Lick attack.]

The Ghost-type attack sends Lara to the ground, shuddering for a moment. She hops back up and spins to face Lady, unleashing a Powdered Snow attack before charging again with another attempted Pound.]

[If at first you don't succeed...]

[At the apparent success of the ghost-type attack, Mihoshi panics a little.]

Oh my Gosh! I'm so sorry! Is she okay? I don't want to hurt her!

[Lady didn't share that sentiment in the slightest. She shook off the ice attack with an annoyed look. Did this smoochum even think before attacking?

She barely managed to dodge the pound attack and attempted to use Sweet Kiss on Lara.]

[The rest of the Powdered Snow that didn't hit Lady blew past and hit the backs of Harry's legs, so he's a too busy dancing around and trying to thaw them out to properly answer.]

[The Sweet Kiss manages to graze Lara, just enough to cause confusion. She attempts another Pound attack, but swings wildly and collapses onto the floor.]

[And that's when Harry finally manages to dig out Lara's Pokeball and spins around, tossing it at her in an effort to break up the fight.]

[Lady dances out of the way of the pound attack and sticks her tongue out at Lara before preparing to use another lick attack.

By now Mihoshi is at a loss of what to do.]

Lady! Stop it! Come back and um.. just please stop fighting!

[Moments later she's digging through her own bag, looking for Lady's pokeball and accidentally releases her Teddiusa who takes one look at what's going on and facepaws.]
